Aoife Smyth – Director/Acting Tutor
Aoife Smyth trained as a director at Drama Centre London.
Since graduating in 2005 she has worked as a freelance theatre director. She started her professional career at Shared Experience assisting Nancy Meckler and Polly Teale on their productions of Madame Bovary and A Passage to India. She went on to assist Tiffany Watt Smith at the Young Vic on two Sean O’Casey plays. Both of these prominent theatre companies gave her a valuable insight of how to work in the profession and encouraged her to always have high artistic values and belief in a process.
She was very lucky then to be taken on as an Associate director at the Union Theatre, Southwark. This unique fringe venue allowed her direct a number of successful productions including Treehouses, Impostors, Spring Awakening, Stars in the Morning Sky and The Tinkers Wedding.
Aoife has, for the last five years, traveled back and forth from Drama Centre London to Italia Conti directing plays and teaching both actors and directors.
Credits for Italia Conti include: The House of Bernarda Alba, Three Sisters, Punk Rock, Tales From The Vienna Woods(The Space Edinburgh), The Rover, Our Town(The Space, Edinburgh), Once a Catholic, On The Razzle, Under Milkwood(The Space Edinburgh), As You Like It, Orpheus Descending, Dolly West’s Kitchen, and Alls Well That Ends Well.
